In 10 years, IISc got nearly 700 patents; filed 1.1k applications

The patenting trends at IISc reveal a story of growing innovation and intellectual property protection. Over the past decade — between Jan 2015 and Nov 2024 — data shows a steady increase in the number of patent applications filed by IISc researchers. Rising from just 84 applications in 2015, the number grew to 145 in 2023 and 109 till Nov 2024.

India sees 92,000 patent filings in FY24, IP guidelines set for overhaul

India recorded approximately 92,000 patent applications in the last financial year, Unnat Pandit, Controller General of Patents, Designs, and Trademarks (CGPDTM) told news agency PTI on Tuesday. Speaking at an Assocham event in New Delhi, Pandit attributed the numbers to a rising interest in intellectual property (IP) protection in the country, with a new technology seeking protection every six minutes.
